Saint Anne’s Church in Noord is the second Catholic church built in Aruba, after the Alto Vista Chapel. It was founded in 1776 and was little more than a mud building with a thatched roof. In 1831, a brick building replaced it and another one in 1886. It is the one on this picture of 1903:

The current stone version of the church was founded in 1916 by priest Thomas van Sadelhoff. The church has a heavily carved wooden neo-Gothic altar, pulpit and communion bench. These works of art were made by Dutchman Hendrik van der Geld. In 1928 they moved from a church in Scheveningen to Aruba.

The church is rich in images of biblical figures and scenes, like the representation of the Last Supper on the front of the altar. Stained glass windows were installed in 1932, others, depicting the Holy Family and the Trinity, in 2010.

The most recent renovation took place in 2002.

On 25 August 2011, a severe downdraft caused damage to Saint Ann’s roof and other areas. The altar, the communion rail and pulpit and remained unharmed although the roof was ripped open by the strong winds.

St. Anne’s continued to offer mass under a tent in their parking lot until the roof was replaced.

Right next to the church there is the graveyard, with its above-ground family graves.
