Sociedad Bolivariana * 1944
Category: Oranjestad
The Sociedad Bolivariano is a foundation dating back to 1937 and a building opened in December 1944. More than a decade before the Cultureel Centrum (Cas di Cultura) was opened, it was the only cultural center on the island.
Its goal was to offer a home to the cultural arts in any way for anyone in Aruba. It featured a large auditorium.
It served as homage to Simon Bolivar (1783-1830), the Liberator of Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador and Peru.
At first, there was a bust of Bolivar in front of the building. Later an equestrian statue was placed on the square, Plaza Simon Bolivar.
The building is no longer used and is in dire state of repair.
