As Project manager responsibilities include preparing feasibility studies for the restoration of a monumental building or object. Once feasibility has been approved a program of requirements for the identified tenant and designing a concept layout of the building according to the new tenant’s wishes is prepared. After agreement with the new tenant is signed, an architect and engineers are hired to transform the concept design into architectural and working drawings for the restoration of the building. These consultants are guided by the project manager throughout the preparation of the drawings, details, specification manual, bidding, and monument permit process. Throughout the restoration the project manager guides and controls the work executed by the contractor during the construction phase. After the restoration is completed the transfer of the restored monument is coordinated so the new tenant can move in.
What I like about working in heritage preservation is the discovery and research process while saving and preserving another building or object from the past so new generations can learn from our forefathers. I have the utmost respect and bewonderment for the architects and contractors of the past for what they were able to accomplish without the facility of modern technology, materials, and tools.
